Conceived specifically for its location in the Cathedral of Mallorca, the mobile sculpture “La Veu de la Sibil·la” represents the incorporation of this prophetic figure into the cathedral’s iconographic programme. The pieces, copper plates floating in space, first formed part of La Seu’s Christmas ornamental installation in 2017, framing the traditional chanting of the Sibil-la that is celebrated during Matins Mass.
The project was conceived, designed, and managed by the artist specifically for the cathedral, and curated by the critic and exhibition curator, Fernando Castro. The temporary installation consisted of the exhibition of seven copper neulas placed on the main throne, the point from which Sibyl sings every Christmas.
The project raises new possibilities for the relationship and coexistence between contemporary art and sacred art, as well as the incorporation of Marta Blasco’s work into the cathedral’s iconographic programme.
“La Veu de la Sibil-la” was sponsored by Obra Social La Caixa and a catalogue belonging to the Campins Gaudí collection was published on the occasion of the exhibition.
